Fairfield scored three touchdowns in the second period and rolled to a 28-13 victory over Prairie Heights last Friday at Hubert Cline Field in the opening round of the Class 2A football playoffs.
Cameron Kitson put Fairfield on the board with a 15-yard touchdown burst. Kyle Ostrander, who finished the game with 205 of the Falcons’ 333 yards rushing, followed with scoring jaunts of 33 and 14 yards.
The Panthers cut the margin to 21-7 in the third period on a one-yard touchdown plunge by Bobby Blum. Kitson then hit paydirt for the second time early in the final stanza to restore the Falcons to a 28-7 lead.
Zach Shepard closed the scoring when he took a pass from Panther quarterback Kyler West 75 yards for a touchdown.
Kitson contributed 92 yards to the Fairfield rushing attack. Joey Barry led Prairie Heights on the ground with 44 yards on 13 attempts.
The loss sent the Panthers to the sidelines with a season record of 3-7.
Fairfield will take a 7-3 mark into a second-round matchup this Friday night in Benton against Lewis Cass. The 9-1 Kings edged Bremen, 34-28 in overtime this past Friday.
