Fairfield downed Westview, 25-17, 25-16 in the finals of the NECC volleyball tournament this past Saturday afternoon in Emma.
The Lady Falcons advanced to the championship round with victories over Angola (25-11, 25-23), Churubusco (25-12, 25-15) and West Noble (25-9, 25-15). The Lady Warriors got to the finals by virtue of beating Central Noble (25-11, 25-15), Eastside (25-14, 25-11) and Prairie Heights (25-15, 26-24).
Breann Bushong led the Westview attack on the day with 40 kills. Grace Hales netted 24 spike winners and Maria McCoy stacked up 18.
Hales topped the service ace column with six, followed by Rachel Johns with five and Makai Gingerich with three. Gingerich also collected 85 assists.
Dig leaders were hales with 30 and both Johns and Lexi Hostetler with 23. Bushong had five blocks, while McCoy and Miranda Kresse stuffed three apiece.
Prairie Heights went 2-1 in pool play with its wins coming over Central Noble (25-22, 25-13) and Eastside (25-17, 27-25). The Lady Panthers also bested Lakeland (25-16, 25-18) in a cross-over match.
Lakeland fell to West Noble (25-11, 25-20, 25-21) in the opening round of the tourney last Thursday. The Lady Lakers posted a 2-1 mark in cross-over play, losing to Prairie Heights and defeating Hamilton (25-9, 17-25, 17-15) and Fremont (25-16, 19-25, 15-11).
