Fairfield took a firm grip on first place in the NECC baseball standings Monday night in Emma with a 5-1 victory over Westview.
The result improved the Falcons to 8-0 in the league and dropped the Warriors to 7-2.
A wild pitch in the second inning brought home Austin Christner with the first Fairfield run. In the third, RBI singles by Brad Newcomer and Christner upped the Falcon lead to 3-0.
Westview got one of the runs back in its half of the third when Adrian Brandenberger singled in Brant Yoder from second base. But that would be all the Warriors could scratch off of Falcon hurler Newcomer, who struckout two and did not walk a batter in picking up the win.
Fairfield sealed its 16th victory of the campaign with two runs in the sixth. A lead-off triple by Zach Kropf and a walk to David Mahoney was followed by a two-out, two run single off the bat of Garrett Scott.
Austin Schlabach had two of the eight Westview hits. Brandenberger, Yoder, Jamar Weaver, Luke Miller, Kohle Christner and Damon Miller all had one.
Tarrin Beachy took the pitching loss, striking out three and walking five in six innings. Mike Hicks tossed a scoreless seventh inning with two whiffs.
