Fairfield boys drub Lakeland

Fairfield dealt the Lakeland varsity boys basketball team its first loss in the Scott LaPlace Era, 83-49 Tuesday evening in Benton.

The Falcons dominated play from the opening tap, racing to a 16-5 lead by the end of the first quarter. The hosts then used a 25-11 spurt in the second period to boost their advantage to 25 (41-16) at halftime.

Joe Line collected 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists to spearhead the Fairfield attack. John Stack added 17 markers. Eight other Falcons got into the scoring act.

Brant Betts canned 6-9 attempts from beyond the three-point arc to finish with a team-high 18 points for the Lakers. Chandler Mynhier followed Betts in the scoring column with 14 tallies. Mynhier and Joseph Trost each grabbed four rebounds.

The result left both the Falcons and Lakers with 1-1 NECC records and 2-1 overall marks.
