Three local high school students received scholarships from the LaGrange County Extension Homemakers this year. All scholarships were presented during senior award programs at each high school.
Nancy Tooker presented with Westview High School Scholarship to Brooke Yoder, Betty Van Wagner presented the Prairie Heights High School Scholarship to Jason Perkins, and Mary Beth Lemings presented the Lakeland High School Scholarship to William Kelly.
The LaGrange County Extension Homemakers, along with clubs all across the state of Indiana, are celebrating 100 years of Extension Homemakers this year.
LaGrange County has four clubs with 56 members who contributed over 700 donated items, 3,665 hours of volunteer service, and over $2,000 in cash donations to local not-for-profits last year. They do all this by supporting the 4-H Fair and Livestock Banquet along with LaGrange County preschools with an early reading program called First Books for Kids. They also bake over 200 dozen cookies and sell them during the holiday season in Shipshewana to fund the Extension Homemakers scholarship program, which provides three local high school students with scholarships. These are just a few of the organization’s many programs.
