Eugene I. Barnes, 85, Wolcottville, died Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at his residence.
He was born February 27, 1927, in Sturgis, Mich., to Willis and Opal (Gruball) Barnes.
Moving from Sturgis, Mich., to the area over 20 years ago, he was a self-employed brick mason and retired after 25 years with Inland Steel in East Chicago, Ind. He was a missionary through the Wesleyan Church in Sturgis, Mich., serving in several countries around the world. He was a member of Wolcottville United Methodist Church and Bricklayers Local 6 in Merrillville.
He was married May 24, 1951, in Valentine, to Barbara Lou Honaker. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Jerri Smith, Ft. Wayne; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kim and Diane Barnes, Albion, and Steven R. Barnes, Colon, Mich.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister, Marion Fleming, Quincy, Mich.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Leon Barnes.
Services were held Saturday, October 27, at Young Family Funeral Home Wolcottville Chapel with Reverend Carldean Merrifield officiating.
Burial will be at a later date.
