Esther Marguerite Wagner, 99, Sturgis, Mich., died Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Thurston Woods Village.
She was born January 22, 1912, in Mongo, to Alpharus and Zola (Pollock) Keefer.
After graduating from Mongo High School, she attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Ft. Wayne, where she received a nursing degree. She interned at several New York City hospitals before beginning her career as a nurse in Michigan. She worked at Coldwater Hospital, Sturgis Memorial Hospital, and was a dental assistant to Dr. Claire Weidlea for several years. She returned to Sturgis Memorial Hospital, where she worked on staff until retiring in 1972.
She was married in 1938 to Walter R. Wagner of Sturgis, Mich.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary (Bruce) Turner, Marquette, Mich.; five grandchildren, Tamera (William) DuPras, Terri Turner, Trent Turner, and Travis (Heather) Turner, all of Marquette, Mich., and Tracy (Raphael) Bennett, Chicago, Ill.; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, June Tingley, Sturgis, Mich., Noma Ignatz, White Pigeon, Mich., and Carolyn Keplinger, Hartford City, Ind.; and one brother, Charles Keefer, Sturgis, Mich.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Gloria Jean, one grandson, two brothers, and one sister.
Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Saturday, December 3, at the Sturgis Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Sturgis, Mich., with Ronnie Marshal officiating.
