Erma Ross

Erma Jeanette “Kay” Ross, 97, LaGrange, formerly of Wolcottville, died Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Miller’s Merry Manor of LaGrange.

    She was born February 19, 1919, in Detroit, Mich., to Elvin and Ida (Cook) Swaney.

    She lived in a variety of places throughout her life, spending part of her life in the Houghton Lake area of Michigan, where she was a past president of the Houghton Lake Moose Lodge and worked as a pharmacy assistant. She was also a motel manager in New Mexico and worked for LaGrange Publishing Company. She was a member of Woodruff Grove United Methodist Church.

    She was married December 24, 1952, in Vermontville, Mich., to Glenn Janousek. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1980. She was married September 29, 1980 to Raymond J. Ross Sr. He preceded her in death on September 10, 1991.

    Surviving are a stepdaughter, Kathleen Ludlow, Schneider, Ind.;a stepdaughter-in-law, Judy Janousek, Mesa, Ariz.; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren. She spent the last 20 years of her life being part of the Steve “Beaver” and Janet Olinger family. She became a grandmother to Chad and Kyle Olinger and great-grandmother to their families.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, three stepdaughters, JoAnn Hosey, Janis Edick and Margaret Schmenk, two stepsons, Gary Janousek and Raymond J. “Jim” Ross Jr. and one stepgranddaughter, Christine.

    Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, August 7, at Woodland Cemetery in Wolcottville with Reverend Gary Rifenburg officiating.

    Memorials may be directed to the League for the Blind and Disabled in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
