Reverend Emerald Joe Miller, 79, Shipshewana, died Monday, January 21, 2013 at IU Goshen Hospital.
He was born September 12, 1933, in Allen County, Ind., to Emerald A. and Edna R. (Voirol) Miller.
Moving from Ft. Wayne to the area in 1937, he was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, pastor at Lakeview United Methodist Church in rural LaGrange from 1988-2012, a farmer and owner of Miller’s Berry Patch, and a bus driver for Westview School Corporation from 1984-2008.
He was married April 4, 1958, in Owenton, Ky., to Elvira M. Clifton. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2012.
Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Teresa Dershem, Nappanee, and Gloria and Bruce Miller, Shipshewana; seven grandchildren and spouses, Aaron and Meghan Dershem, Indianapolis, Ind., Cameron Dershem, Indianapolis, Ind., Andrea and Derek Yoder, Middlebury, Stephanie and Ben Hershberger, Shipshewana, Sarah and Caleb Sloan, Ft. Wayne, Amanda Miller, Goshen, and Abigail Miller, Shipshewana; one sister and brother-in-law, Eloise and Orlando Caravette, Palos Heights, Ill., and one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Adel Miller, Las Vegas, Nev.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Eldora Ann Hayford.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday, January 24,at Frurip-May Funeral Home in LaGrange.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 25, at Frurip-May Funeral Home in LaGrange with Brother Jimmy Gray officiating.
Burial will be in Sidener Cemetery, Shipshewana.
