Elliott gets suspended sentence

Former LaGrange County Clerk Beverly Elliott was given a suspended sentence of two years after she pled guilty to two Class A misdemeanor counts of criminal conversion Wednesday in a DeKalb County court.

Elliott, who resigned from office at the end of March, reached a plea agreement that saw four charges of official misconduct dismissed. Elliott was given a one-year suspended sentence for each count, and will serve two years on probation. Terms of the plea agreement also include 100 hours of community service and a fine of $1 plus court costs.

It was reported that Elliott’s resignation was not part of the plea agreement, but was necessary to conclude the case.

Elliott served as county clerk since 2004, and was charged in July 2011 of official misconduct following a state board of accounts audit.
