Earl R. Oberkiser, 88, died Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Lakeland Nursing Home.
He was born February 15, 1925, in Ft, Wayne, Ind., to Earl Lawrence and Merlen (Norris) Oberkiser.
He was a graduate of Fort Wayne Central High School and served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Hudson, Ind., and Orland American Legion Post 423. He was active in American Red Cross disaster relief, receiving the Clara Barton award.
He was married December 27, 1944 to Mary A. Benner. She preceded him in death on October 25, 2008.
Surviving are three grandchildren Brian (Jamie) Oberkiser, Tanya Oberkiser, and Leslie Grossman; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Loann Oberkiser and Eileen Benner.
He was preceded in death by one son, William “Obie” Oberkiser.
Celebration of Life was held Monday, November 11, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Hudson, Ind., with Pastor James Elsner officiating.
Burial is in Prince of Peace Cemetery.
