Driver fails to yield to motorcycle

Shortly after 8 p.m. on May 11, a 1995 Chevy pickup driven by a 16-year-old juvenile failed to yield the right of way to a 2012 Harley Davidson Street Glide motorcycle at the intersection of SR 9 and CR 600N. The motorcycle rider, David Ziker, 56, of Granger, IN, laid the motorcycle down in an attempt to avoid hitting the truck but was unable to do so and the motorcycle hit the right rear of the pickup.

According to the police report, Ziker was transported to Parkview LaGrange Hospital for a minor injury. He was wearing protective gear, which is credited with minimizing injuries. The motorcycle had extensive damage.

The juvenile driver was cited for failure to yield.

Assisting at the scene was the Howe Fire Department and LaGrange EMS.
