Douglas E. Hetchler, 75, LaGrange, died Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Life Care Center of LaGrange.
He was born January 6, 1938, in Lansing, Mich., to Harry G. and Ruth A. (Nickols) Hetchler.
Moving from Sunfield, Mich., to LaGrange County in 1960, he worked in the maintenance department at Dometic Corporation from 1960-1999 and served with the Michigan National Guard. He was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in LaGrange, served on the LaGrange Town Board from 1988-1991, and retired from the LaGrange Volunteer Fire Department.
He was married November 24, 1961, in LaGrange, to Sondra E. Schermerhorn. She preceded him in death on July 16, 1998. He was married October 15, 2003, in LaGrange, to Nina M. Slesareva. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and David Elick, LaGrange; one son, James D. Hetchler, LaGrange; three stepsons, Igor Trofymov, Russia, Oleg Trofymov, Canada, and Ivan Trofymov, Ukraine; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; one sister, Delores Curtis, Gering, Neb.; and three brothers, Harry A. Hetchler, Lake Odessa, Mich., Thomas Hetchler Sr., Lansing, Mich., and Gerald Hetchler, Omega, Ga.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, at Frurip-May Funeral Home in LaGrange with an IVFA memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, September 19, at Frurip-May Funeral Home in LaGrange with Pastor Kevin Brower officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange.
