Dorothy Bontrager

 

Dorothy Irene Van Gordon-Bontrager, 90, Hartford City, Ind., died Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home.

    She was born October 13, 1921, in White Lake, Wisc., to William Spencer and Josephine (Ramey) Swim.

   She was a homemaker and moved back to Blackford County about five years ago from LaGrange, where she had been living with her husband Orie before he died.

    She was married April 28, 1946 to Arlo E. Van Gordon. He preceded her in death on April 3, 1979. She was married in 1985, in Ft. Wayne, to Ora J.K. “Orie” Bontrager. He preceded her in death in 2005.

   Surviving are four daughters, Esther (O’Dell) Lakes, Carmel, Ind., Joy (Dave) Bellinski, Troy, Ill., Sharon Van Gordon-Fry (Richard) Andrews, Ind., and Nancy (Michael) Lager, Williamsburg, Virg.; three sons, John (Toni) Van Gordon, Keystone, Ind., David (Cindy) Van Gordon, Hartford City, Ind., and Michael A. Van Gordon, Hartford City, Ind.; 14 stepchildren, Ada Schrock, Mary Colwell, Ellis (Ruby) Bontrager, Eldon Bontrager, Elvie (Ruby) Bontrager, Ola Cosby, Bessie Lehman, Allen Bontrager, Elroy (Michelle) Bontrager, Albert (Patty) Bontrager, Velma (James) Larimer, Verlo (Linda) Bontrager, Cletus (Brenda) Bontrager, and Marlin (Brenda K.) Bontrager; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 35 stepgrandchildren; 78 stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; one brother, Bud (Kathy) Swim; five sisters, Myrt Rich, Barbara Bain, Mellie (Johnny) Hall, Bea Ruth, and Faye (Larry) Richter; and several nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers and sisters.

    Services were held Wednesday, October 10, at Keplinger Funeral Home in Hartford City, Ind., with Pastor Kevin Lex officiating.

    Burial is in Hartford City Cemetery, Hartford City, Ind.
