Donald J. Wittrig, 78, Topeka, died Friday, October 12, 2012 at Parkview LaGrange Hospital.
He was born March 1, 1934, in Elkhart, to Paul A. and Effie M. (Wyse) Wittrig.
He was a teacher and in administration at the Kalamazoo, Mich., area school system. He later worked in the area as an Amish driver. He moved from Naples, Fla., to Topeka in 2001. He was a member of the Topeka Mennonite Church, serving the church in many different ways. He was also a member of the Topeka Lions Club and had been a foster parent to 20 children throughout his life.
He was married July 11, 1954, in Kouts, Ind., to Meredeth Ann Miller. She survives.
Also surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Dee Wittrig, Topeka; two daughters, Christine Wittrig, Topeka, and Carla Davis, Naples, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Wendy (Larry) Rex, LaGrange, Cassidy (Jason) Lewallen, Spring Hill, Fla., Jake (Sabrina) Lawrence, Columbus, Neb., and Bobby Lawrence, Columbus, Neb., Jamie Lawrence, LaGrange, and Natasha and Chad Weber, Naples, Fla.; 11 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kira, Marlee, Linken, Adirah, Noah, Owen, Remi, Brayden, Kaydence and Celine; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Charles Spenser, Hawaii, and Miriam and Delbert Roth, Lakewood, Colo.; one brother, Robert Wittrig, Denver, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Melissa Julian, and a son-in-law, Michael Davis.
Visitation is 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, at Topeka Mennonite Church.
Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, at Topeka Mennonite Church with Reverend Robert Martz officiating.
