Donald G. “George” Spears, 87, Ft. Wayne, died Friday, March 2, 2012 at his residence.
He was born December 4, 1924, in LaGrange, to Gaylord Harley and Rose Bernice (Choler) Spears.
Living most of his life in Ft. Wayne, he retired as president of Spears-Dehner Inc. after 48 years. He was WWII veteran, serving in Italy, France, and Belgium with the 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team and was a combat veteran of the Battle of the Bulge. He was a graduate of South Side High School and graduated in 1949 from Purdue University in Civil Engineering, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He was a past president of Indiana Constructors Inc. and a 68-year member of First Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Juliette Ayres Spears; one daughter, Juliette J. “Jeanne” Spears, Elkhart; two sons, Mark W. (Rita) Spears, Ft. Wayne, and D. Eric (Sherri Bale) Spears, Chevy Chase, Md.; daughter-in-law Gabriele Spears, Ft. Wayne; nine grandchildren, David (Jenna) Sanders, Nathan Bale, Allyson, Amy, Steven, Viktoria, Brian, Collette, and Kevin Spears; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, James G. Spears, and one brother, John P. Spears.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home in Ft. Wayne.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home in Ft. Wayne.
