Dog facility postponed at BZA

A variance request for a dog breeding facility on CR 200E was postponed until the May 16 meeting following a remonstrance against the proposal.

The request, by Floyd and Ruth Troyer, 2395 S 200E, was to own and operate a dog breeding facility with more than four dogs over the age of six-months.

Two remonstrators, including neighboring McKibben Farms, addressed the BZA Tuesday during the public hearing. A primary concern was where the facility would be situated on the property, with McKibben Farms representatives expressing concern over how it would affect property value. They noted that their property has both agricultural use, as well as residential.

Two other dog breeding facilities were approved Tuesday, but it was noted that they were more isolated, and would not affect surrounding properties as much.

The board felt it needed more information before making a final decision and the Troyer’s asked for a postponement to give the board time to get that information.
