Delores A. Thomas, 83, Goshen, died February 26, 2014.
She was born December 22, 1930, in Danville, Ill., to Cleveland and Mary (Mains) Handley.
She was a registered nurse, graduating from Lakeview School of Nursing (University of Illinois affiliation) in 1953. She was class president, valedictorian, and had one of the highest scores ever recorded on the Illinois Registered Nurse State Board Examination. She and her husband were missionaries to Sierra Leone, Africa, for over 12 years and maintained a medical clinic among the Kono Tribe. Returning to the U.S. in 1967, she was a homemaker and team worker with her husband in his churches, supervised a low income health care clinic in Muncie, Ind., worked in nursing homes and volunteered with the American Red Cross.
She was married June 13, 1954 to Reverend Jack K. Thomas, who is presently pastor of Wolcottville United Methodist Church. He survives.
Also surviving are two children, Stanton (Judy), Syracuse, and Tonda (Mrs. Howard Langdon), Goshen; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 1-3 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at First United Methodist Church in Goshen.
