December library events

Children's sewing class…

A sewing class for kids ages 5 and up will be held once a month from 3-5 p.m. at the Topeka Branch Library.

Anyone interested in the class should call the Topeka Branch at 260-593-3030 and library staff will let you know when the event will be held.

Tween Program…

This month, tweens ages 10-14 will have a Friendship Party from 4-5 p.m. at the Topeka Branch Library. Bring your friends and a snack to share! This event will be held on one Friday in December.

Storytime Class…

Storytime at the LaGrange County Public Library will be held on December 2, 9 and 16 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

At Storytime Class in December, there will be lots to be merry about! Come see how this early literacy activity can get preschoolers ready for the classroom.

Homeschool meeting…

A Homeschool meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at the Shipshewana Branch Library. The meeting will focus on learning about Christmas.

Floam monsters…

A floam monsters program will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the Shipshewana Branch Library

These monsters are gooey, puffy and fun to make!

Storytime Class…

Storytime at the Topeka Branch Library will be held on December 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 at 3 p.m.

The stories and activities this month at Storytime Class will be all about the weather.

Computer Christmas cards…

Come to the LaGrange County Public Library on Tuesday, Dec. 2, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and create Christmas cards on the computer.

You don’t have to be super-crafty to create holiday greetings with a personal touch! Come see how easy it is to make beautiful greeting cards, invitations, thank you notes, and more using Microsoft Publisher. You don’t even need to know how to type!

This class is free, but space is limited. Registration is required at the LaGrange Adult Services desk or by calling 260-463-2841 ext. 1030.

Genealogy assistance…

Genealogy assistance from the LaGrange County Genealogical Society is available on December 3, 10 and 17 from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Assistance from the LaGrange County DAR is available on Tuesday, Dec. 9, from 1-5 p.m., all at the LaGrange County Public Library.

Assistance will not be available December 24 or December 31, as the library is closed for holidays.

Volunteers are available in the Genealogy Department at regular times to assist the public with family history questions and challenges.

 

 

Topeka Family Movie Night…

Family Movie Night will be held on Friday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. at the Topeka Branch Library.

This family movie night will feature a Disney film from 1985, "One Magic Christmas." This movie is rated G and runs 89 minutes.

Thumbprint light art…

A teen program on thumbprint light art will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Topeka Branch Library.

The same program will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 23, at the LaGrange County Public Library.

You’re never too old for fingerpainting and that's just what teens will do when they create thumbprint light art.

Teen Advisory Board…

The Teen Advisory Board will meet at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the LaGrange County Public Library.

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is open to ages 12 and up, and applications are available online at www.lagrange.lib.in.us or at the Circulation Desk. Those involved in this group will have input into how the library spends the teen budget, what new materials should be on the shelves, and will discuss programs and services that should be offered for teens.

Lego Club…

The Shipshewana Lego Club will meet at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Shipshewana Branch Library.

Genealogy for teens…

A genealogy program for teens will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the LaGrange County Public Library.

Teens will get personal help from a librarian on how to begin the search for their past.

Photo frame program…

Tired of using boring old picture frames? Make your own funky frame beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, at the LaGrange County Public Library.

The same program will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, at the Topeka Branch Library.

LaGrange Family Movie Night…

The LaGrange County Public Library will hold Family Movie Night beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12.

The movie will be “Dolphin Tale 2.” In this sequel, the team of people who saved Winter's life reassemble to find her a companion so she can remain at the Clearwater Marine Hospital.

This movie is rated PG and runs 107 minutes.

Second Saturday Book Club…

The Second Saturday Book Club's annual holiday outing will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Fireside Café in in Yoder’s Shopping Center, Shipshewana.

The club will be dining and discussing The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis. In this beloved children’s classic, four siblings evacuated to a stranger’s house to escape the London Blitz stumble into the land of Narnia, a kingdom frozen in eternal winter and enslaved by the power of the White Witch. But when almost all hope is lost, the return of the Great Lion, Aslan, signals a great change…and a great sacrifice.

Christmas ornaments program…

A Salt Dough Christmas Ornaments program will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the Shipshewana Branch Library.

These ornaments are a great way to help children personalize the family Christmas tree!

Lego Club…

The Topeka Lego Club will meet at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, at the Topeka Branch Library.

Snowflake window clings…

Come make snowflake window clings at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 23, at the Shipshewana Branch Library.

These snowflakes will enhance the view out of any window.

New Year's Wishing Wands…

Kids can make New Year’s Wishing Wands at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the Shipshewana Branch Library.

This is a great craft for kids as they welcome the New Year.
