Daniel Mast


Daniel I. Mast, 87, Goshen, formerly of Middlebury, died Friday, November 23, 2012 at IU Health Goshen Hospital.

    He was born June 14, 1925, in LaGrange County, to Ira W. and Fannie (Bontrager) Mast.

    He was a carpenter and had been co-owner of D&M Construction with his brother, Mel Mast, for 25 years, retiring in 1990. He was a charter member of the Crystal Valley Exchange Club, was a member of Moore Park Mennonite Church for 10 years, Bonneyville Mennonite for five years, and was currently a member of Pleasant View Mennonite Church. He was active in the Men's Bible Study fellowship and assisted with Bible memory at Camp Amigo. He had played both slow and fast pitch softball and spent several winters with his wife in Sarasota, Fla.

    He was married October 15, 1946, in Elkhart County, to Anna Yoder. She survives.

    Also surviving are four daughters, Rose Mary (Robert) Claasen, Lawrence, Kan., Judy (Leroy) Hunsberger, Goshen, Anita Acord, Goshen, and Cherylan (Scot) Shearer, Goshen; one son, Dannie W. (Loretta) Mast, Middlebury; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; eight brothers, Bill (Doris) Mast, Howe, Ora (Edna Mae) Mast, Mt. View, Ark., Mel (Esther) Mast, Middlebury, John (Jean) Mast, Sarasota, Fla., Elmer Mast, Middlebury, Leroy (Fannie) Mast, Mt. View, Ark., Milo (Nancy) Mast, Goshen, and Lee (Arlene) Mast, Goshen.

    He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Alvin Mast.

    Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home in Middlebury.

    Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, at Pleasant View Mennonite Church in Goshen with Ron Diener and Deacon Norman Maust officiating.

    Private burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury.

    Memorials may be directed to the Heifer Project or International Bible Memory Camp.
