Westview saw its six-game winning streak in varsity baseball come to a screeching halt Saturday, as the Warriors dropped a pair of decisions at Culver Academy.
NorthWood edged Westview, 4-3 in the first game of the twin-bill. Chad Erwin went 3-4 at the plate with a double and two RBI to pace the Panther attack. Hunter Lane slashed a trio of singles, while Tanner Roberts, Blake Cleveland and Nate Wagner all had one hit.
Adrian Brandenberger ripped a double and an RBI single to lead Westview. Judah Zickafoose lined a couple of singles and both Brant Yoder and Kohle Christner drove in runs. Poking one safety each were Jamar Weaver, Luke Miller, Austin Schlabach, Tarrin Beachy and Damon Miller.
Will Kirkwood was the winning pitcher for NorthWood, as he struckout two and did not walk a batter. Damon Miller, Mike Hicks and Zickafoose all took a turn on the mound for the Warriors.
In the second game, Culver Academy bunched together three tallies in the bottom of the fifth and held off the Warriors, 3-1. Run-scoring singles by Bartleman, McHugh and Bjornson keyed the Cadet rally.
Luke Miller’s double in the top of the first brought home Yoder with what turned out to be the lone Warrior run. Miller finished with two hits as did Zickafoose, who also doubled.
Yoder, Weaver, Christner and Schlabach each lined a single for Westview.
Grandel, who relieved Culver Academy starter Provost in the fifth inning, got the win. Brandenberger took the loss.
Westview now stands 11-8 on the season.
