Cub Scout Troop 3764 to hold flag retirement ceremony

Cub Scout Pack 3764, chartered by the LaGrange Rotary Club, invites residents of LaGrange to a city-wide flag retirement ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7. The ceremony will be held at LaGrange American Legion Post 215.

The United States Flag Code, Chapter 1, Section 8, Item K states, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.” Anyone who has a flag that needs to be retired can bring it to the American Legion between now and 9:30 a.m. on December 7 and the Cub Scouts will fold the flags for proper retirement.

This ceremony is dedicated to those Americans who loved the flag and gave the ultimate sacrifice on December 7, 1941, when the U.S. Pacific Naval Fleet was attacked while docked at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
