Crash sends two to the hospital

 

The Indiana State Police is completing an investigation of a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Sept. 14 on SR 3 in South Milford that involved an on-duty deputy from the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department.

According to ISP Trooper Kody Buell, at approximately 12:20 p.m. a 2012 Dodge Charger driven by Deputy Randolph J. Mellinger, 44, of rural LaGrange was stopped at a stop sign eastbound on CR 700S at the intersection with SR 3. Mellinger was operating the vehicle normally and was not on an emergency run at the time.

Mellinger proceeded into the intersection and struck a southbound 1999 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Phyllis Bellos, 65, of rural LaGrange. As a result, Mellinger suffered injuries to his left collar bone and arm and was transported to a local hospital. Bellos’ passenger, Lampios Bellos, 62, of rural LaGrange suffered a head injury and was transported to a Ft. Wayne hospital for treatment.

Assisting at the scene was the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department, LaGrange County EMS, Noble County EMS, and the South Milford Fire Department.
