LaGrange County’s unemployment took a steep drop last month, dropping to 6.2 percent, the lowest rate the county has seen in a long time.
The rate for August was a full percentage point lower than the July rate. The August 2012 rate was 7.8 percent.
The numbers provided by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development show improvement in all three categories. The county saw an increase of 124 to the work force. The county also added 285 jobs during the month. Those listed as unemployed dropped by 161.
The 6.2 percent rate puts LaGrange County at 78th in the state’s county rankings.
Neighboring counties continue to be a full percent or more higher, with Elkhart County at 7.7 percent, Steuben County at 7.5 percent and Noble County at 7.3 percent.
Statewide, the unemployment rate dropped to 8.1 percent, down from 8.4 percent in July.
