LaGrangeCountyhas seen its lowest unemployment in a long time. Numbers released by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development last week show LaGrange County had an 8.8 percent unemployment rate for February.
The rate is 0.9 percent lower than the revised January rate of 9.7. A year ago, the unemployment rate stood at 10.2 percent.
The numbers show a drop of 140 residents off of the unemployed column. Of those, 79 were listed as employed, while 61 fewer people were listed in the labor force.
The state as a whole enjoyed a drop to 8.4 percent unemployment, down from the revised January rate of 8.7.
LaGrangeCounty’s rate puts it at number 57 in the state for unemployment.
ElkhartCounty, which led the state for a long time in unemployment, dropped to 23rd in the state with a February rate of 10.3 percent.
Other neighboring counties’ rates were: Steuben County – 9.9; Noble County – 9.6 percent; DeKalb County – 9.5 percent.
