LaGrangeCountysaw its unemployment rate drop by half a percent in March, as 188 residents were added to the “employed” list.
According to the numbers released last week by Indiana Workforce Development, LaGrange County finished March with an 8.3 percent unemployment rate, down from the revised February rate of 8.8 percent.
While other months have seen a drop in the rate due mainly to a drop in the labor force, March saw 188 added as employed and 64 fewer on the unemployed list. The labor force had a net growth of 124 in March, according to the state numbers.
LaGrangeCountyhad an unemployment rate of 9.4 percent in March 2011. At the same time, the county listed 1,451 people as unemployed, compared to 1,266 in March 2012. The labor force was higher in 2011, with 15,409, compared to 15,319 currently.
Workforce Development posted numbers reviewing all of 2011, which saw the county at a high of 10.9 percent in January 2011, and dropping to 9.3 percent by December 2011. The rate has continued mostly downward through 2012. The county averaged 35th in the state throughout 2011. Currently, the county sits at 60th in the state rankings.
Indianacontinues to see a drop in the state average, posting 8.2 percent unemployment in March, down from 8.4 percent the month before.
