Corbet Slone

 

Corbet Slone, 91, Kendallville, Ind., died Friday, April 5, 2013 at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville.

    He was born June 2, 1921, in Raven, Ky., to Amos and Dallie Slone.

    Moving from Vest, Ky., to Stroh in 1952, he resided in Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville since September 2011. He began his career working in a sawmill, then drove a truck, worked on the railroad, and retired from All Metal in Ligonier. He was a member of Salem United Baptist Church, serving as deacon, trustee, and clerk of the church. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.

    He was married July 20, 1942, in Vest, Ky., to Sophie Gibson.  She preceded him in death on May 22, 2003.

    Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, LaDonna McConahay, Big Turkey Lake, Betty and Billy Tuttle, Hudson, Ind., and Joeann and Ronald Spade, Angola, Ind.; 11 grandchildren, Chad and Robin Tuttle, Howe, Shawn Tuttle, Hudson, Ind., Clarissa and Gene Fugate, Garrett, Ind., Arletta and Jerry Smith, Angola, Ind., Tim and Kim McConahay, Hudson, Ind., Sherry and Kirk Noll, LaGrange, Steven and Regina Mynhier, Pueblo, Colo., Debbie and Mike Uhl, Kendallville, Ind., Karen Guise, Fremont, Ind., Tara and Russell Ratliff, Angola, Ind., and Allison Slone, Angola, Ind.; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren due in May and October; one sister and brother-in-law, Daisy and Al Amburgey, LaGrange; and one brother and sister-in-law, Austin and Elmetta Slone, Wolcottville.

    He was preceded in death by one son, Don Slone, a son-in-law, Larry McConahay, one grandson, Christopher Mynhier, three sisters, Brookie Click, Beulah Grigsby, and Geneva Lawson, and two brothers, Cullen Slone and L.D. Slone.

    Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Monday, April 8, at Young Family Funeral Home Wolcottville Chapel, and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Salem United Baptist Church in Kendallville, Ind.

    Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Salem United Baptist Church in Kendallville with Pastor Billy Ray Tuttle and Reverend Elmer Slone officiating. 

    Burial will be in Sparta Cemetery, Kimmel.

    Memorials may be directed to Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville.
