Constance Lehman achieves CDE status

The National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE) has announced that Constance Lehman, RD, Topeka Pharmacy Diabetes Education Program, has achieved Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) status by successfully completing the certification examination for diabetes educators.

Candidates must meet rigorous eligibility requirements to be able to take the examination. Achieving certification status demonstrates to people with diabetes and employers that the health care professional possesses distinct and specialized knowledge, thereby promoting quality of care for people with diabetes. Currently, there are over 17,870 diabetes educators who hold NCBDE certification.

Lehman has been a diabetes educator at Topeka pharmacy since January 2011. The program is accredited by the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE), and has already had good success in helping people with diabetes learn to manage this chronic disease well. The program consists of six classes covering all aspects of diabetes self-management. Referrals can be made by physicians to the program or patients can be self-referred.
