Three conservation day camps are being planned for this summer. Each camp will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and dates of the camps are June 24 at Dallas Lake Park in Wolcottville, July 8 at Pokagon State Park/Trine Recreational Facility northeast of Angola, and August 5 at Camp Whitley northwest of Columbia City. The camps are open to students ages 9-13 and there is a cost to participate. Lunch and all supplies needed to participate in the camps are included in the participation fee.
The Day Camp at Dallas Lake Park in June will include a scavenger hunt, building a bird feeder or butterfly box to take home, making homemade ice cream, and swimming. Lunch will be cooked by participants over a campfire.
In July, Conservation Camp will meet at Pokagon State Park/Trine Recreational Facility. The topic will focus on wildlife and natural resources conservation. Participants in July will get to cool off after a strenuous morning by swimming in Lake James in the afternoon.
The Camp Whitley session of Conservation Camp in August will introduce campers to shooting sports. Indiana Conservation Officers will be on hand to teach firearm safety, and campers will get to try their hand at clay pigeon target shooting. Camp Whitley staff will be on hand to instruct campers in archery. Again, Troy-Cedar Lake will help cool everyone off with a refreshing swim in the afternoon.
Come one come all to the 2014 Conservation Day Camp! Attend one or all three sessions.
