Concord dealt the Lakeland varsity softball team a pair of tough losses Saturday in LaGrange.
A three-run outburst in the top of the 11th inning propelled the Lady Minutemen to a 5-2 victory in the first game. Maddie Jackowiak drove in two of the decisive runs. Jenny Miller homered for Concord.
Karissa Troyer’s RBI single in the fifth and a solo home run to center off the bat of Kristen Wiese accounted for the two Lady Laker markers. Paige Gust scattered nine hits, walked two and fanned three in taking the pitching setback.
Lady Minuteman pitcher RaeAnn Miller recorded 18 strikeouts.
Concord built a 7-1 lead in the nightcap, only to have Lakeland rally to within two with a four-run fourth inning. Ashton Miller plated three of the Lady Laker runs with a homer.
Still trailing by a count of 9-6 in the bottom of the sixth, Lakeland drew within one on a two-run shot by Jill Mingus. With the homer, Mingus broke the LHS career RBI mark held previously by Ashlynn Grubb and Brittney Bateman.
Concord hurler Jenny Miller held the Lady Lakers scoreless after that to secure the victory for her club. Kiley Austin, who started in the pitcher’s circle for Concord, got credit for the win.
Campbell racked up four hits, two of which were doubles, scored twice and knocked in two runs to spearhead the Lakeland attack. Aspen Bond and Troyer each totaled two safeties.
Bond suffered the pitching setback in game two. She walked two and whiffed four.
Saturday’s losses lowered the Lady Laker season mark to 8-7.
