Community foundation seeks intern

Following a grant of additional funding by the Lilly Endowment, the LaGrange County Community Foundation (LCCF) has announced that it will continue its Youth Development Intern program and will hire a college student for that position for the fall 2012 and spring 2013 school semesters. The part-time position is presently held by Laney Kratz.

Kratz, a senior at Trine University, will soon graduate from college but will assist in selecting and training the new intern for his or her responsibilities.

The primary responsibility for the intern will be to serve as the navigator (mentor and coordinator) for the LIFE youth philanthropy program. The 20-member LIFE group consists of young people in grades 8-12 from the four LaGrange County school corporations. The highly participative educational program focuses on individual and group development as applied to grantmaking and community service. Additional funding may become available in the future and the potential exists that the intern opportunity may be extended with additional duties beyond the semesters presently being offered.

The selection and hiring process for the internship opportunity will begin with the application deadline on June 1 and is open to applicants who are sophomore or junior baccalaureate students residing within practical driving distance of the LCCF. The LCCF is very flexible about adapting the work schedule to the intern’s class schedule. However, the intern must plan for and attend the one LIFE meeting each month. The successful applicants will agree to a criminal background check as part of the selection process and must be prepared to serve as a role model for teens. While not a requirement, this is an excellent career development opportunity for a student with a major in education or other field related to youth development. The work assignment will begin on Aug. 27.

For more information about the position or to obtain an application, visit the LaGrange County Community Foundation website at www.lccf.net or call 260-463-4363. Submit the application along with a cover letter to the LCCF office no later than June 1.
