College Go Week was celebrated at Lakeland High School Sept. 24-28. Every year the purpose of College Go Week is to encourage students to start taking steps toward post-secondary planning.
During College Go Week, some universities and colleges waive their applications fees and many high schools throughout Indiana offer different activities to get students thinking about their future.
LHS offered a number of activities to celebrate College Go Week, including a college mascot quiz for students in grades 9-12, a paper scavenger hunt for juniors and seniors to encourage students to read the Indiana NEXT Magazine: A Guide to Life After High School provided by Learn More Indiana and the Indiana Department of Education, a “Where Do You Want to Go” challenge in which students were asked to tell where they want to go to college and why, and various college and career readiness sessions provided by community members and representatives from area colleges.
Most importantly, numerous college applications were completed by seniors at LHS. Students and staff were encouraged to wear clothing to show support for their favorite colleges and universities throughout the week. Pictures were taken throughout the week and they can be viewed on the Lakeland School Corporation website, www.lakeland.k12.in.us.
