Clarence Walters

Clarence Walters, 81, died Wednesday, November 1, 2017.

    He was born December 18, 1935, in Colon, Mich., to Clarence and Lucile Walters.

    He was a 1954 graduate of Brighton High School and was a department manager and assistant manager for the J.C. Penney Company for 10 years in Sturgis, Pontiac, Saginaw and Hillsdale, Mich. The family moved to Quincy, Mich., in 1966 to manage Coldwater Material Supply, a contractor lumber yard owned by McCall Lumber. A few years later, he purchased the business from McCall’s and started Walters Building Supply which he and his wife operated for 37 years before he retired. He was an active church member and served as elder and treasurer at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was an active Quincy Rotary member with 45 years of perfect attendance. He received the Rotary Paul Harris Award in 1992 and served as president from 1979-1980.

    He was married in 1956 to Elaine Stutz. She survives.

    Also surviving are one son, Alan (Beth) Walters; three daughters, Paulette Walters, Tammi (Todd) Carlson, and Shawna (David) Grimm; seven grandchildren, Christopher Walters, Matthew (Meghan) Grimm, Timothy (Sarah C.) Grimm, Sarah Elaine Grimm, Jonah Grimm, Caelyn Carlson and Jenna Carlson; and one sister, Donna (Frank) Krontz.

    He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lillian Swihart.

    Funeral service was held Saturday, November 4, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Coldwater, Mich., with Pastor Aaron Chittick officiating.

    Burial is in Lakeview Cemetery, Quincy, Mich.

    Memorials may be directed to En Gedi Campgrounds or the St. Paul Church Endowment Fund.

    Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Quincy, Mich., was in charge of arrangements.
