Fourteen students from the Jinhua (China) Performing Arts School have been traveling through LaGrange and Elkhart counties during the past week, taking time for performances in Shipshewana and Elkhart.
The group of students, ages 13-18, performed at the Shipshewana Flea Market Wednesday morning and then returned to the theater in the Davis Mercantile on Thursday.
The Jinhua Student Performance Series included traditional Chinese songs, opera, dance, and art. The group is set to conclude its tour at The Lerner Theater in Elkhart on Tuesday. The series was arranged by the Elkhart County Convention and Visitors Bureau and Premier Arts, along with funding assistance from the Elkhart County Community Foundation.
The Jinhua Performing Arts School is recognized for its talented performers. This is the students’ first time in the United States. The visiting delegation consisted of 26 students, educators and professional artists.
During their stay, students resided with Premier Arts host families, spent time with Premier Arts ambassadors, and interacted with area students. Premier Arts and Elkhart County hosts student performers, adult artists and educators from Elkhart’s Sister City in China to share their talents with the community. Through art and culture exchanges, they are seeking to build a bridge of understanding, sharing and commonality between the communities.
