Central Noble nips Lakeland in baseball play

A bases-loaded walk with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning brought home Nick Noe with the game-winning run in Central Noble’s 5-4 victory over Lakeland in NECC baseball play last Thursday night in Albion.

The visiting Lakers had taken a 4-3 lead on a solo home run by Nick Byler in the fourth inning. But the Cougars tied the count with a single marker in the bottom of the sixth and then the game-winner in the seventh.

Noe, who began the decisive seventh inning with a double, went 3-3 at the dish and scored twice. Kevin Kennedy knocked in two Cougars with a double in the third inning.

Byler collected two of the three Laker hits off winning hurler Jordan Cooper, who struckout seven and walked six. Dalton Schmidt had the other LHS safety.

William Kelly pitched well in defeat for Lakeland, allowing just one earned run and striking out seven. Alex Pearson relieved Kelly in the seventh.
