CASA volunteer sworn in

Wolcottville resident Terry Dunbar was sworn in Wednesday morning by LaGrange County Superior Court Judge George Brown as the county’s newest CASA volunteer.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteers work with the courts to give children involved in cases a voice.

Dunbar, a retired teacher from the East Noble Alternative Learning Center, heard about CASA through her work at the school, from her son and another CASA. She said she was looking for something to do and is looking forward to helping.

CASA volunteers get 30 hours of training with the Department of Children Services and the courts, as well as shadow a current CASA before they begin taking on their own cases, said CASA Coordinator Kristi Bachman. She said she is looking forward to having Dunbar begin working on her own cases as soon as possible.
