Shortly before 1 a.m. on Dec. 30, officers from the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the intersection of SR 3 and CR 620S for an accident that involved a car driving into the ditch.
According to the police report, officers investigating the crash suspected that drug activity was involved. K-9 Kayla was called in to do a drug search on the vehicle and allegedly gave a positive alert to the odor of illegal narcotics. A search of the crashed vehicle resulted in the discovery of a large amount of drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana.
Further investigation revealed that the driver of the crashed vehicle, Kristina S. Shomo, 19, of CR 900E allegedly had marijuana hidden on her person. At the conclusion of the crash investigation, Shomo was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated-Drugs, a Class C misdemeanor, Possession of Marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor, Possession of Paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor, and Maintaining a Common Nuisance, a Class D felony. Another occupant of the vehicle, Joshua Halsey, 18, of South Milford was arrested for Visiting a Common Nuisance, a Class B misdemeanor.
A 17-year-old juvenile who was also in the vehicle was cited and released to his parents.
