CANI(Community Action of Northeast Indiana) is seeking applicants for its newly created AmeriCorps program.
AmeriCorps is an opportunity to make a big difference in your life and in the lives of those around you. It’s a chance to apply your skills and ideals toward helping others and meeting critical needs in the community. Each year, AmeriCorps offers 75,000 opportunities for adults of all ages and backgrounds to serve through a network of partnerships with local and national nonprofit groups.
CANI has received funding from the Indiana Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives (OFBCI) for 10 AmeriCorps members to leverage at least 125 volunteers to assist in providing financial literacy services, early childhood education, healthy futures, and community and agency volunteer opportunities. These services will be provided throughout CANI’s service area of 12 counties: Adams, Allen, Dekalb, Elkhart, Grant, Huntington, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wells, and Whitley. Members will work in at least 10 of the above mentioned counties.
AmeriCorps members will serve at one of two Host Sites: CANI and Lutheran Social Services of Indiana (LSSI).Members will have several opportunities to work together on community-wide focused projects throughout the year.
Members must commit to an 11-month time period. They will receive a regular stipend, as well as an educational award upon completion of service. Qualifications are as follows: be 18 or older, have a high school diploma, and be a U.S. citizen. The positions will start Sept. 17. An application can be found online at www.canihelp.org.
