Boys State Track Meet results

Westview sophomore Trey Kennedy placed fifth in the pole vault at Saturday’s IHSAA boys track state finals meet in Bloomington.

Kennedy lauched himself over the bar at 15-3 feet, breaking his own school record in the event. Nathan Schuck of Hamilton Southeastern and Justin Zasso of Chesterton also had a final height of 15-3, but finished ahead of Kennedy due to fewer misses.

Penn’s Kyle Johnston was the meet champion with a height of 16-1.

Trey’s father, Jason, won the 1993 pole vault state championship with a mark of 15-0 feet.

Two other county pole vaulters competed in the state finals. Junior Nate Raber of Westview placed 10th overall with an effort of 14-0. Sophomore Zach Shepard of Prairie Heights did not qualify for the finals.

Westview senior Jerry Schwartz placed 10th in the 800 meters with a clocking of 1:55.12. Gary Austin of Pike won the race in a time of 1:52.17.
