Edna Bowser will be the newest member of the LaGrange Town Council following a Democratic Caucus Friday afternoon.
Bowser will finish the term for long-time council member Bruce Eagleson, who stepped down from the council earlier this spring.
Bowser will also be on the fall ballot for the Ward 5 seat and is unopposed in November.
This is the first foray into politics for Bowser. She said she does have a couple of goals in mind, but wants to get the feel of the council and the town before making any suggestions. “It’s a learning experience,” she said.
Bowser worked under former sheriff Greg Dhaene in the jail kitchen, where she saved a “significant amount of money.”
Bowser works at CrossRoads RV in Topeka and also quilts for Lolly’s Fabrics of Shipshewana. She has also been sewing the patches on police uniforms for 25 years.
She has four grown children, with one serving in the U.S. Army.
