LaGrange County’s unemployment rate took a significant drop in April, falling below 7 percent for the first time in years.
According to numbers released Friday by Indiana Workforce Development, the county posted 6.7 percent unemployment for April, down 1.5 percent from the 8.2 percent adjusted rate for March.
The county saw 99 people added to the labor force, while adding 316 jobs for the month. The number of unemployed dropped by 217 to 1,033.
A year ago, the rate stood at 7.1 percent.
The current rate puts the county 72nd in the state for unemployment. Adjacent counties’ rates for April were: Elkhart County, 8.2 percent; Steuben and Noble counties, both 8.1 percent.
Statewide, the rate dropped to 8.5 percent, down from the 8.7 percent adjusted March rate.
