Betty L. Strombeck, 93, Wolcottville, died Saturday, August 16, 2014, at The New Northridge Village in Albion, Ind.
She was born August 6, 1921 in Fort Wayne, IN to Paul & Mildred (Saupert) Meyers SR. Betty was a graduate from the Wayne Beauty College in Ft Wayne, IN. She married John O. Strombeck on March 17, 1942 at the Emmaus Church in Fort Wayne, IN. After 62 years of marriage he preceded her in death on April 4, 2004. They had previously owned and operated City Service Citgo in Wolcottville, IN from 1961 to 1973 and Twin Six Tavern from 1973 to 1977 and then . moved to Colon, Mi and returned to Wolcottville in 2001. Betty was also previously employed as a retail clerk in a Dress Shop. She was a member of the Rome City America Legion Post # 383 Ladies Auxillary in Rome City, IN. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and supporting the Noble and LaGrange County Humane Societies and the Wounded Warrior Project. She is survived by 1 brother – Robert Meyer of Monroeville, IN. 1 sister-in-law – Mary Jane Meyer of Oklahoma. 3 nieces – Nancy & Harry Neff of Topeka, IN, Nataili Sturgis of Kendallville, IN and Nanetta & Rex Munson of Shipshewana, IN. Several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 sister – Virginia and 1 brother – Paul (Sonny) Meyers Jr. A Graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery on Saturday August 23, 2014 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Carldean Merrifield officiating. A Celebration of Life reception will immediately follow the graveside service at the Rome City American Legion Post #383, Rome City, IN from 3 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family of Betty to share with her favorite charities. The family would also like to thank the staff at The New Northridge Village facility in Albion, IN for the amazing care they had always given to Betty.
