Betty A. Sommer, 82, formerly of Nappanee, died Monday, March 25, 2013 at Golden Living Nursing Home in Elkhart.
She was born December 21, 1930, in New Castle, Ind., to Gus and Ruth (Valentine) Spears. Her adoptive parents were Asa and Elizabeth Blount.
She attended Portland, Ind., Schools and worked at Blue Bells in Nappanee. She was a member of the New Paris Church of the Nazarene. Her husband pastored the Nappanee Church of the Nazarene for 14 years and the LaGrange Church of the Nazarene for 19 years.
She was married to Rev. Eugene Sommer. He preceded her in death Dec. 5, 2003.
Surviving are one daughter, Diana (Dennis) Williams, Elkhart; two sons, Mike (Becky) Sommer, Edwardsburg, Mich., and David (Lorraine) Sommer, Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; a foster daughter, Kelly Allen Mishler, LaGrange; six grandchildren, Jim Sommer, Samantha (Chris) Caldwell, Michael Sommer, Matthew Sommer, Steve Williams, and Priscilla Williams; seven great-grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Beebe Permenter, Big Springs, Texas; and one brother, Jim (Shirley) Blount, Portland.
She was preceded in death by one son, Steven Sommer.
Services were held Thursday, March 28, at New Paris Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Greg Hall officiating.
Burial is in Union Center Cemetery.

Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home in Nappanee was in charge of arrangements.
