Bethany Christian boys defeat Howe

Bethany Christian’s Jim Buller became the winningest boys basketball coach in Elkhart County history last Thursday night when his Bruins defeated the visiting Wildcats of The Howe School, 54-45.

The win gave Buller the 365th triumph of his 34-year career, passing John Longfellow’s previous mark of 364. Longfellow coached at Nappanee for four seasons (1925-29) and at Elkhart for 19 (1929-48), where he won 24 tournament championships.

Sol Brenneman tossed in 20 points to pace the Bruins. Caleb Morris pitched in 13 points to the victorious ledger.

Arnas Zabarauskas led Howe with 14 points. Sinking 10 tallies apiece were Simon Williams and David Sherman-Hay.
