Barbara Merritt, 81, Ft. Wayne, Ind., died Saturday, April 12, 2014 at St. Anne’s Home in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
She was born April 20, 1932, in Centerville, Ind., to Floyd and Gladys (Bussen) Gibson.
Barbara and her husband, Thomas Merritt, previously lived in Howe and Terre Haute, Ind. While in Howe, her husband was superintendent of Howe Military School. She was a homemaker and while living in Terre Haute, Ind., she was active in Tri Kappa and the Newcomers Club.
She was married April 20, 1962, in Richmond, Ind., to Thomas S. Merritt. He preceded her in death in 2003.
Surviving are two daughters, Denise Pastore, Terre Haute, Ind., and Jennifer Merritt, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; two grandchildren, Jessica Fairfield, Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Jacquelyn Fairfield, Carlsbad, Calif.; one Brother, Phillip (Cecile) Gibson, Grand Rivers, Ky.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Donna Bourne and Juanita Gibson.
Visitation is noon-2 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Carney-Frost Funeral Home in LaGrange.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Carney-Frost Funeral Home in LaGrange with Colonel George Douglass officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Howe.
