Aspy leads Westview to OT win

Westview senior Chandler Aspy turned in a career performance at East Noble Tuesday, pouring in 42 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

But none of Aspy’s 15 field goals were more important than the three-point shot canned by junior teammate Andrew Yoder. The triple, accounting for the only points Yoder scored in the contest, beat the fourth-quarter buzzer and pulled the Warriors into a 46-46 tie with the Knights.

The two teams fought to a 54-all deadlock during the first overtime session. Westview then outscored East Noble, 11-5 in the second extra frame to cement a 65-60 victory.

Aspy scored all but five of the Warriors’ 29 second-half points and five of the eight Westview markers in the first overtime. The 6-3 forward hit two field goals and two free throws in the second overtime stanza.

The 42 points wasn’t only a single-game best for Aspy, it also made him the eighth Westview player to reach 1000 points for a career (1011). The other seven are Jeff Nelson (1023), Jeremy Bachman (1081), Adam Christner (1220), Brad Oesch (1283), Ryan Yoder (1594), Rusty Yoder (1698) and Gary Yoder (1711).

Cody Litwiller, whose three-pointer at the start of the second overtime put the Warriors in the lead for good, finished with nine points. Chase Anderson swished eight markers.

Four East Noble players landed in double figures, headed up by Chase Klinker with 15 points. Andrew McCormick had 14, Brandon Nichols 12 and Dylan Hunley 11.

The victory leveled Westview’s season record at 5-5.
