Area outdoor enthusiasts gathered at Pine Knob Park in Howe on Sept. 22 for an archery shoot competition to raise funds for Junior Achievement (JA) programs in LaGrange County. Over $4,000 was raised.
This facility with field archery targets and a wooded 3-D archery trail featuring life-sized game targets was a perfect venue for this event.
The adult winner was Dave Allison from Goshen with a blazing score of 272. The youth/teen winner was Morgan Blankenship from Wolcottville with a score of 276. The top three scores in each category received a ribbon – Cub (ages 10 and under), Youth/Teen (ages 14-18) and Adult.
This was the third year for this fundraiser. “I am very pleased with the overall results and look forward to next year, said event coordinator Dan Levitz. “I was so impressed with the facility and the improvements that were made. The LaGrange Parks Department was great to work with.”
Many area merchants donated generously to the event by providing door prizes and sponsorships.
Winners of the raffle were Kevin Lambright and Suzie Overfield.
Sponsors for the event were: Crossroads RV, Shipshewana Auction and Flea Market, Miller’s Food and Drugs, Evergreen Eye Clinic, Farmers State Bank, Farmstead Inn, LaGrange County REMC, Parkview LaGrange Hospital, Shipshewana Auction, Shipshewana Flea Market, Snax in Pax, Steuben County REMC, Topeka Pharmacy, Brett’s Lawn Care, Pick and Pack Travel, LaGrange Publishing, LaGrange County Parks and Recreation, Kuntry Lumber, Farm Credit Services, Yoder Hardware, Sturgis, Mich., Wal-Mart, and the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department.
