What once started as a fun, creative winter offering for the public has turned into a full-blown celebration.
On Saturday, Feb. 4, 100 retailers and more than 2,000 guests will participate in the annual Pajama Sale downtown Shipshewana. Shops will open early and there will be discounts for anyone who shops in pajamas. Some stores, for the first time in the history of the festivities, are providing discounts Friday evening.
With the event having garnered attention in last year’s winter edition of Midwest Living Magazine, the Shipshewana Pajama Sale attracts people from all over the area, with some visitors driving from three and four hours away, according to Joanna King, one of the founders of the event.
“This year we’re especially excited,” King stated. “The pajama sale is on Saturday and the Super Bowl is on Sunday. Great things are happening in Indiana!”
As part of the celebration, the LaGrange County Convention and Visitors Bureau is offering a Girlfriend Getaway package for four that features dinner, theater tickets, and an overnight stay.
The public can register for the giveaway by stopping at the CVB’s new location at 350 S. Van Buren St. (SR 5) Suite H, south of Yoder’s Shopping Center. Registrants should stop in between 6 a.m. and noon during the Pajama Sale event.
Also on the morning of the Pajama Sale, the CVB will offer hot drinks, bottled water, and muffins, and a printed flyer of store specials.
