Commissioner George Bachman presented a potential plan to county council members that will place animal control in LaGrange County into private hands. Bachman explained that Elkhart County has been handling animal control in this manner for a number of years and for the most part the program has been successful.
The concept presented will lease the county animal shelter on CR 300S to Ark Animal Rescue and Adoption, Inc. Ark will receive $100,000 a year from the county for each of the next three years for performing this service.
Bachman said that the county is currently spending a minimum of $120,000 annually on the animal shelter.
Council approved the concept and appointed Jac Price and Charles Ashcraft from the council to work with county commissioners in negotiating a contract.
