Angola swept Lakeland in a varsity softball doubleheader played Saturday in LaGrange.
Lauren Henderson lined a double and two singles in leading the Lady Hornets to an 8-3 victory in the opener, which counted as an NECC tilt. Donna Bowers banged out two hits, including a solo home run.
Kristen Wiese poked a double and a single, and Karyssa Troyer laced a pair of singles to pace the Lady Laker attack. Jill Mingus ripped a double and both Abby Bustos and Laken Detwiler drove in runs.
Chelsea Lively was the winning hurler for Angola, allowing eight hits, striking out six and walking two in seven frames. Paige Gust started for Lakeland and took the loss. Aspen Bond came on in the fifth and gave up just one run and one hit.
The Lady Hornets whacked 21 hits in taking the nightcap, 15-6. Nine of their safeties came during an eight-run seventh inning which sewed up the win.
Henderson wrapped up a seven-hit day by collecting a double and three singles in the closer. Bowers and Madi Moyer each socked a double and two singles. Molly Smith poked three singles.
Mingus plated three Lady Lakers with two singles and Bustos drove in one with a double. Ashton Miller scored twice.
Riley Peppler went the distance in the pitcher’s circle for Angola, whiffing three and walking one. Bond was the losing hurler for Lakeland.
The Lady Lakers now stand 2-3 overall and 1-1 in league play.
